May is National Electrical Safety Month

Transworld, Inc. Electrical Contractors is celebrating by sharing electrical safety tips that will protect you and your family.

Knowing when to call an electrician is important for avoiding a potential electrical hazard and ensuring the safety of your home and workplace. Finding a potential electrical problem early will eliminate addition cost and can save you money.

Here are some good reasons that you should call a licensed electrician:

  • If you are finding that electrical circuit breakers frequently trip or your fuses blow often, an electrician should be called. We don’t recommend resetting the circuit breaker and replacing fuses as both of these situations could be indicating that there is a potentially dangerous problem.
  • If you have lights that are blinking and/or dim unexpectedly in your home, we recommend seeking the electrical services of a qualified, experienced and skilled electrician. Both of these are signs of a loose connection or an overloaded circuit.
  • If you notice any noises, smoke, or heat coming from your electrical panel then you need to call a licensed electrician right away. These are all signs of an electrical hazard that can result in an electrical fire. If you do see fire, call your local fire department and get to a safe location outside of the home.

It is also important to note that if the power is off in your house, it is best to first call the power company before calling an electrician. We recommend calling the power company first because they will come out for free and check their end of the line to ensure that nothing is wrong with your power line or the meter. This can help you save time and money. If there are no problems with the power company, then a licensed electrician should be called to troubleshoot your electrical system.

National Electrical Safety Month is a great time to focus on electrical safety and remember that it is very important to hire only licensed and qualified electricians to work on your electrical system. Only a qualified and insured electrician can safely provide electrical testing services and a range of other electrical services necessary to guarantee safety and protection.
