Earth day is a great opportunity to take a step back and think of ways you can build habit that are more energy-efficient or to take small steps each day to reduce our carbon footprint, conserve energy and in the end may even save you money. For the first time in it’s history, Earth Day is continuing it’s theme, ‘Invest in our Planet’ from last year. Acting as a continuation of this year’s well-received campaign, the theme is focused on engaging government, institutions, businesses, and the more than 1 billion citizens who participate annually in Earth Day is to their part.

Transworld Electric’s electricians are celebrating Earth Day by sharing ways that you can reduce energy consumption and create more energy-efficient homes.

Here are 4 energy-saving tips:

  1. If you’re not using it turn it off.

This applies to any lighting, appliances, and electronics in your home or office. We recommend using a power strip so you can easily turn off multiple items at once.

  1. Energy-efficient lighting.

Lighting accounts for about 15% of a typical residential utility bill. This can be drastically reduced by upgrading to energy-efficient halogen incandescent, CFLs, and LEDs.

  1. Clean or change air filters.

A dirty filter will slow down airflow and make the system work 2-3x harder to keep you warm or cool. Changing out your filters monthly with help prevent this from happening.

  1. Ceiling Fans

Using your ceiling fan will allow you to raise the thermostat setting to about 4°F with no reduction in comfort.
