How To Save Energy In Your Home Office

As we all take precautions against the spread of COVID-19, you may have transitioned into working more from home. We’re sharing ways to help you save energy and keep your electricity bill under control while you work from home.

Five Ways to Save Energy In Your Home Office:

  1. Energy Setting on your computer

Many computers, laptops, and other devices have a built in setting for saving energy. Simply follow the instruction on your device to configure power management features. Also, if you need to purchase additional equipment for your home office, make sure to look for the ENERGY STAR® label. Here are some more tips to help conserve energy on your computer.

  • If you leave for more than 20 minutes, turn off your computer monitor.
  • If you leave for more than one hour, turn off the monitor and put the computer in sleep mode.
  • If you leave for the day, completely turn off the computer.
  1. Use Power Strips

Many devices will continue to consume energy when they are plugged in, even when they’re turned off. One way to eliminate this issue is to plug your electronic devices into a power strip and to flip the switch on the strip off at the end of the day. This will cut the power to the devices so they are no longing consuming energy. Home office appliances that can be plugged into a power strip include your computer, printer, phone charger, lamp and paper shredded.

  1. Upgrade lighting to LED energy efficient bulbs

Another simple way to improve your home office’s energy efficiency is by replacing standard light bulbs with energy efficient bulbs which use 25-80 percent less energy than standard bulbs, and last longer too!

  1. Energy Efficient Heating & Cooling

Heating and cooling equipment is essential for comfort in your home office but can also become expensive. Try opening windows, using fans, or a space heater when possible.

  1. Take Advantage of Natural Light

If you are working during the day, try to remember to turn off lights in rooms that aren’t being used and opening the drapes or blinds in your home office. This can reduce the need for overhead lights or desk lamps. Also, natural light is known to boost moods and productivity!
